Abundance Elected Qualifications

The Abundance Movement is looking to create and support a community of elected leaders who have the following characteristics:

  • Implementation-focused: You care as much about understanding and improving upon existing policies as you do about creating new ones.
  • Promotes an outcomes culture: You work to create a healthy, outcomes-oriented culture within your organization by giving deference to and engaging in respectful inquiry with professional staff, using data to diagnose not punish (as a “compass not a grade”), and focusing on user needs.
  • Supply-side oriented: You recognize government constraints on access to and supply of public goods, like affordable housing, can harm best outcomes (some call this YIMBY for everything).
  • Courageous, humble & curious: You have resisted or would resist special interests if it would compromise a policy’s most effective outcome, even when politically difficult. You engage in and value constant inquiry and iteration.
Please affirm that you are an Abundance elected leader and give a brief example of how you have demonstrated one or more of the above characteristics.
